In the EU, death comes sooner in Latvia than Spain
Death in the European Union will be coming a lot earlier in Latvia than Spain.
In a major health study released Wednesday, statistics show that life expectancy at birth has increased by more than six years in the past quarter century to stand at 80.9 years in 2014.
In Spain, the average life expectancy is 83.3 years, 8.8 years longer than in the Baltic nation. Spain is followed by Italy, France and Sweden in the longevity charts while at the other end, Bulgaria, Lithuania and Romania get close to Latvia.
The health survey from the 28-nation EU also had bad news for the young, where self-reported overweight problems among 15-year-olds shot up to 17 percent from 11 percent in 2001-2002.
