Oracle helping to fix Obama's healthcare site

The Obama administration has recruited engineers from several prominent technology companies to help fix the technological problems preventing people from signing up for government-mandated health insurance.

A government spokeswoman says software makers Oracle and Red Hat are pitching in as well as Michael Dickerson, an engineer on leave from Google.

Oracle Corp. CEO Larry Ellison told shareholders the software maker's annual meeting Thursday that the Redwood Shores, Calif. company is trying to make Healthcare.gov more reliable and secure.

Red Hat Inc. and Google Inc. declined to comment.

Exasperation with the buggy computers has been compounded by concerns that the website lacks the security measures needed to protect the sensitive information of people looking for insurance.

The Obama administration has pledged the website will be running smoothly by Nov. 30.
