Study finds concussions alter connectivity among brain regions

The University of Nebraska–Lincoln's Heather Bouchard and Doug Schultz are speaking of airports and blizzards, missed flights and reroutes. Surprising subjects, maybe, for a couple of researchers who study not the logistics ...

A flicker of truth: Piercing the 'continuity illusion'

A study by a team at the Champalimaud Foundation (CF) has cast a new light on the superior colliculus (SC), a deep-seated brain structure often overshadowed by its more prominent cortical neighbor. Their discovery uncovers ...

Brain activity decoder can reveal stories in people's minds

A new artificial intelligence system called a semantic decoder can translate a person's brain activity—while listening to a story or silently imagining telling a story—into a continuous stream of text. The system developed ...

Functional magnetic resonance imaging

Functional MRI or functional Magnetic Resonance Imaging (fMRI) is a type of specialized MRI scan. It measures the haemodynamic response related to neural activity in the brain or spinal cord of humans or other animals. It is one of the most recently developed forms of neuroimaging. Since the early 1990s, fMRI has come to dominate the brain mapping field due to its low invasiveness, lack of radiation exposure, and relatively wide availability.
