One of the human guinea pigs in what is known as the "Elephant Man" drug trial in Britain has an aggressive form of cancer, a report says.
The Mail on Sunday said David Oakley, 35, was recently diagnosed with a lymphoid malignancy. He now must wait to find out if the condition is treatable.
Oakley, a newly married driving instructor from West London, was the worst hit patient in the disastrous drug trial in which six healthy young men became gravely ill. Oakley, whose identity has been hidden until now, has expressed outrage at the companies involved, saying they have not paid for any of his treatment, the Mail reported.
Oakley's internal organs reportedly collapsed when he took part in testing the drug TGN1412. The trial also caused his head to expand to elephant man proportions. Oakley, who underwent the experiment to help pay for his wedding, is calling for the companies to come forward and take responsibility, the newspaper said.
