Britain reports faulty pregnancy tests
Hospitals across Britain are trying to contact thousands of women who used faulty pregnancy tests and may not know they are expecting a baby.
Fifty hospitals report that thousands of women may have been given a "false negative" result, the Daily Mail reported Friday.
Hospital staff are concerned that the women may be drinking heavily or engaging in activities that may put their babies at risk.
The faulty tests came from Inverness Medical Innovations, which makes Clearview HCG pregnancy kits. Inverness recalled the kits after a hospital alerted the company that kits used between April 12 and June 1 were showing "false negative" results when some of the women tested clearly were pregnant, the Daily Mail reported.
"We are confident that the problem has been correctly diagnosed and is being rectified," said a company spokesman.
