The U.S. Food and Drug Administration announced the recall of HC-brand fresh, frozen salted croaker because of possible botulism contamination.

The voluntary recall by Grand Supercenter Inc. of Lyndhurst, N.J., was initiated because the fish might be contaminated with Clostridium botulinum, a bacterium that can cause illness or death.

The HC Fresh, Frozen Salted Croaker was sold in 16.9-ounce packages bearing item No. HC 0500402 and an expiration date of Aug. 2, 2009. The fish was distributed through H Mart stores in the New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Illinois and Texas area.

Consumers who have purchased the recalled croaker products may return them to the place of purchase for a full refund. Consumers with questions can contact the company at 201-507-9900.
