(HealthDay)—Treatment with a multigrowth factor (MGF)-containing cream is associated with more rapid recovery after laser ablation, according to a study published online Sept. 16 in the Journal of Cosmetic Dermatology.

Sungsik Shin, M.D., from the Yonsei University College of Medicine in Seoul, South Korea, and colleagues performed a randomized controlled split-face study involving 20 patients who underwent treatment using an ablative fractional laser. Patients were randomized with respect to the side of the face treated with an MGF-containing cream or control cream. Post-treatment erythema and pigmentation were assessed, and the total area of microcrusts was evaluated. Patient satisfaction and global improvement scores were also measured.

The researchers found that the MGF-treated regions had significantly smaller areas of microcrusts. MGF cream-treated sides also had significantly higher global improvement scores for post-treatment edema and wrinkles compared with the control sides.

"The MGF cream-treated regions showed a more from crusts and edema," the authors write. "Thus, the use of an MGF-containing cream after laser treatment can effectively reduce recovery time."
