Chicago reports nation's 12th death from swine flu

(AP) -- Illinois health officials say a person in the Chicago area has died of swine flu. It's the nation's 12th confirmed death from the illness.

Illinois Department of Public Health director, Dr. Damon Arnold, said Monday the victim had other medical conditions. No more information about the person was released.

As of Monday morning, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported more than 6,700 cases in the U.S., most of them mild. The CDC has tallied 10 deaths, but New York health officials reported another death over the weekend.

The World Health Organization tallied more than 12,500 swine cases worldwide as of Monday, with more than half of them in the U.S. Of at least 91 deaths, 80 were in Mexico, where the was identified in April.
