Medical marijuana dispensaries in Oregon may now legally sell edibles and extracts to recreational users who do not have a medical marijuana card.

On Thursday, the first day of the new sales program, recreational users flocked to stores to try out cannabis-laced truffles, rich chocolate bars, cannabis oil and even .

The Oregon Liquor Control Commission is in the process of licensing producers and expects to authorize recreational shops later this year.

Under the current program, one dose of cannabis-infused edible can have no more than 15 milligrams of THC; consumers can buy up to 1 gram of oil or cannabis extract.

Marijuana entrepreneurs have been gearing up for Thursday's business for weeks.

Edibles had already been available for legal sale to card holders.
