Weight disqualifies 1 in 3 young adults from U.S. military

(HealthDay)—One-third of young adults in the United States are too overweight to be in the military, according to a report from a group of retired military leaders.

The document was released Wednesday by Mission: Readiness (Military Leaders for Kids), a nonprofit, non-partisan group that is promoting healthy school lunches as a way to tackle the problem of obesity among young Americans, the Associated Press reported. Obesity is one of the main reasons why people ages 17 to 24 are deemed ineligible for the military. Other reasons include too little education, drug use, or a criminal history.

"We think a more over the long term will have significant impacts on both the military posture—those available to get into the military—and across our society as a whole from a medical perspective," retired Brigadier Gen. John Schmader told the AP.

Since 2002, there has been a 61 percent rise in obesity among the U.S. military's active duty forces, resulting in higher costs for obesity-related health care and replacement of unfit personnel, according to the report.

Obesity is actually an epidemic and is spreading pretty fast because most of the people do not control their intake of calories and therefore they are not able to be in shape. If you really want to get rid of obesity then the only way in which you can do so is to follow a proper diet.

A few months back I was also suffering from obesity but since then I have lost 22 pounds. The only way in which I was able to lose that weight was with the help of a diet and I followed the diet of lisa plog. If you really want to lose weight, you should be having a proper diet plan controlling the intake of calories. Google for "lisa plog diet plans" and you would be able to find the diet which I used.

The problem is that most of the people do not look into the ingredients of what they are eating and therefore they do not even know whether they are consuming more calories than required or not.
