Austin startup Medici has acquired its second company in two months.

Medici, which developed an app to connect and , said it has acquired Austin-based telemedicine company Chiron Health in an effort to expand its reach in .

Financial terms of the deal were not disclosed.

The announcement comes on the heels of Medici's addition of DocbookMD, a platform to facilitate communication between medical professionals.

"These two acquisitions are really such great fits, both being doctor-driven organizations with several features that perfectly complement and fine-tune the suite of services Medici now offers," Clinton Phillips, Medici founder and CEO, said in a written statement.

Founded in 2013, Chiron Health allows doctors to provide health care access to their remote patients through secure video visits. The company currently caters to more than 1,000 .

Medici launched its app in 2016, enabling patients to connect with physicians by text between scheduled appointments. The app lets users contact doctors, dentists, therapists and veterinarians for consultations, e-prescriptions and referrals.

Using the app, which is compliant with HIPAA federal privacy regulations, patients can also share photos and video, as well as see their entire consultation history in a single place.

Medici's app is free to download from the Apple App Store, Google Play or the Medici website.

Patients pay a fee to use the service that is set by the individual doctors offering it.

More than 30,000 physicians, therapists and veterinarians use Medici's app, including DocbookMD users.

Medici had a busy 2018, announcing in June that it landed $22.4 million in funding.

That funding—on top of $24.2 million raised in 2016—came from a number of prominent business people, Medici said, including retired Dell executive Tom Meredith, retired Publix Super Markets CEO Howard Jenkins and hedge fund manager Ken Griffin of Citadel.

"We are excited to continue in growth mode, focused on doctors helping patients—freeing up physicians to use their knowledge and talents to better serve more patients and for less cost," Phillips said.
