Cold-induced lipolysis effective for male pseudogynecomastia

(HealthDay)—Cold-induced lipolysis is safe and effective for the treatment of male pseudogynecomastia, according to a study published online March 21 in Lasers in Surgery and Medicine.

Jung Tae Park, M.D., from Seoul National University in South Korea, and colleagues evaluated cold-induced lipolysis for treatment of male pseudogynecomastia in 12 patients. Measurements and were assessed at baseline, and weeks four, eight, 16, and 28.

The researchers found that among the 10 subjects who completed the trial, chest circumference and fat thickness significantly improved by week eight, and photographic assessment showed an improvement until week 28. The patients' Simon's Gynecomastia class scores continuously decreased after two sessions, and patient satisfaction scores were also meaningful. Transient pain and bruising at the treatment site occurred but no adverse events were reported.

"Cold-induced lipolysis is a safe, effective therapeutic option in the treatment of pseudogynecomastia," the authors write.
