AAO-HNSF: new consensus on balloon dilation of sinuses

(HealthDay)—A clinical consensus statement on balloon dilation of the sinuses has been approved by the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery Foundation (AAO-HNSF) Board of Directors and presented at the annual meeting of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, held from Sept. 10 to 13 in Chicago.

The panel of otolaryngologists and relevant subspecialty societies reached consensus on 13 clinical in the categories of patient criteria, perioperative considerations, and outcomes.

The statement applies to patients 18 years or older with chronic or recurrent rhinosinusitis (with or without , with or without prior sinus ) for whom the procedure is being recommended.

"Our new clinical consensus statement addresses one of the most pressing issues we face today. It is a game-changing statement," executive vice president and CEO James C. Denneny III, M.D., said in a statement.
