Muffins recalled for possible listeria contamination

(HealthDay)—Possible listeria contamination has triggered the nationwide recall of more than two dozen muffin products made by Give and Go Prepared Foods, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday.

The were sold across the country and include a variety of Uncle Wally's twin muffins, The Worthy Crumb large muffins, Stop n Shop mini muffins, 7-Eleven Selects muffins, Freshness Guaranteed mini muffins, Great Value snack muffins, Marketside muffins, and The Worthy Crumb Oreo mini muffins.

The company said it hasn't received any reports of illness associated with the recalled products.

Listeria infection may cause short-term symptoms such as , severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea in healthy people. However, it can be more serious or even fatal in young children, frail or elderly people, and those with weakened immune systems. It can also cause miscarriages and stillbirths among , the FDA said in a statement.

The agency said the company is "taking this action out of an abundance of caution."

Consumers who have these products should throw them away, the FDA said. They should also make a note of the lot code of the products, which is found on the label, and provide it if they contact the agency.
